Is Social Media Taking Over the World?

Yes, to some degree anyway. Basically, if you use the internet, you most likely use some sort of social media platform such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc. It’s one of the quickest and easiest ways to market anything you want advertised and can usually be done free of charge in most cases. How convenient is it to chat with friends and blast your house warming party out all while you check your morning work emails? If nothing else, social media is great tool to teach multi-tasking.

As technology continues to grow and develop, so will the social media niche. Pretty soon we’ll probably be able to pull up holograms of our contacts as we text, tweet, or inbox them. One of the reasons, I believe social media is so popular is its convenience factor. We’re all busy. There are never enough hours in the day and most of us usually have one, two or more things that weren’t crossed off the to-do list. Take this scenario into consideration. The holidays are right around the corner, which means lots of food, visiting family members and parties filled with unwanted guests. You’re known for having your annual Christmas party so you already know there is lots of work to be done. Unfortunately, due to your unbelievably hectic schedule, you forgot to send out your nicely decorated paper invitations through the mail. What now? Social media to the rescue!

You have over 1,000 followers on Twitter and are in constant contact with your Facebook family and friends. Queue the cleverly worded yet straight to the point Christmas party Tweet and Facebook status and you’re all set! Your guests can inbox or DM (Direct Message for Twitter) their RSVP or write on your wall. Plus, making it public in a status update could potentially spread the word more for people you wanted to come.  If they come, great and if not it’s less clean- up for you. Yay!

Socially media is only going to get bigger and better as time progresses and is growing in popularity at an alarming rate. So, if you’re not connected via social media, give it a try. The odds are you’ll be hooked like the rest of us.
