He wasn’t ready for fatherhood, but let’s hope John Andrew Welden, 28,  is ready for prison because that’s where he’s headed. When Welden’s girlfriend Remee Lee, 26,  found out she was pregnant, she was excited! She shared the news with Welden, but unfortunately he didn’t share in her excitement. He encouraged her to get an abortion, but she refused. In this situation, some men rise to the occasion and take care of their responsibilities. Some men are scared by the idea of being a dad and they run away. According to CNN, what Welden done was even worse than that.

Welden’s father has a clinic in the Tampa area. Together Welden and Lee went for a sonogram. It was official. Lee was six weeks pregnant. A few days later, Welden told his girlfriend that her blood tests revealed an infection and needed medication. Welden told her that she needed amoxicillin. Instead of giving her the amoxicillin, he gave her Cytotec, which causes contractions and told her to take the pill three times per day. After only one pill, Lee experienced abdominal pain and bleeding. Lee lost her baby. “There’s just no words for the horror I wake up with every day that this is my realit,” Lee said. There’s no escaping it, there’s no turning it off.”

Welden was indicted under the federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act and pleaded guilty. He accepted a plea deal and could spend up to 13 years in prison. Although justice was served, Lee still finds it difficult to believe that her boyfriend did this to her. “Every day is a nightmare for me ever since this began,” Lee told CNN. “Even hearing the guilty (plea) yesterday, it’s hard to believe it, it’s hard to read it and know that this actually happened to me.”
