MLK Memorial Postponed Due To Hurricane Irene

The threat of Hurricane Irene has forced organizers to cancel this Sunday’s planned dedication of the Martin Luther King Junior Memorial in Washington.

The MLK foundation has been waiting 28 years for the official unveiling of the historic landmark.

But organizers say they just can’t take a chance of putting the more than 250,000 people expected to attend, in danger.

The memorial officially opened to the public this past Monday.

Organizers hope to reschedule the dedication for some time in September or October.

I was really looking forward to this event. Guess I’ll have to plan another trip.

Did any of you plan to attend the festivities?
