According to a recent article published by www.CNN.com interracial couples are on the rise in America. Why all of a sudden are people starting to be more interested in the opposite race. Considering the old time saying “America is the big melting pot of the world” , this should come to us as no surprise. We see it all the time, when were out at dinner, watching a movie such as Hitch (starring Will Smith), or even some of our friends. But it evokes a different feeling when it hits close to home within our own families.
This may be a sign of racial equality and progression as America leads the way of the future. According to the US Census Bureau 1 in 10 marriages are interracial. How would you feel if your son or daughter decided to marry outside of their race? Their are a lot of things that come in to play that one must consider when dating outside of their race. See below
Things to consider when dating outside of your race:
- Cultural differences
- Social Acceptance
- Stereotypes of either race
- Different religions
Some people dont share the same sentiments as others. Take a look at this CNN video of R&B singer Jill Scott as she discusses her views on interracial dating.
About 18% of opposite-sex unmarried couples and 21% of same-sex unmarried partners identify themselves as interracial.
The term interracial, as it pertains to the study, is defined as members of a couple identifying as of different races or ethnicity.
