Zimmerman’s Wife Arrested For No Reason?

George Zimmerman, former neighborhood watch volunteer and murderer of teenager Trayvon Martin, isn’t the only one in his family who seems to be in trouble!  His wife, Shellie has now been arrested on account of perjury.

Shellie Zimmerman was arrested Tuesday afternoon for allegedly lying at her husband’s trial about the couple’s finances.

Shellie N. Zimmerman, 25, faces a perjury charge.  She met conditions and paid $1,000 to make bond.  She was released on Tuesday afternoon.

At her husband’s April 20th bond hearing, Shellie was asked if the couple had financial means to assist in the defense.

Her response: “Uhm, not – not that I’m aware of.”  Under oath, she testified that she was not aware of how much had been raised from a website created to solicit cash to help George Zimmerman’s defense.  George Zimmerman shot and killed 17-year old, Trayvon Martin, in a gated community in Sanford, Florida.  Zimmerman claimed that he acted in self-defense.

In April, Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder after the case hit the desk of a state attorney for review.  Later that month, Zimmerman was released after posting bail.

On June 1st, Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. ordered Zimmerman back to jail, accusing him of not telling the truth in court about how much money he had access to when his bond was set.

Prosecutors alleged that Zimmerman actually had access to about $135,000 from the website mentioned above.

According to an affidavit by an investigator in the State Attorney’s office, the couple discussed their finances via phone prior to the April 20th bond hearing.  WOW!!

Apparently the affidavit shows that the two talked about the transfers made from Zimmerman’s account to the accounts of his sister and his wife.

Records show that $47,000 was transferred from George’s account to his sister’s account during the April 16th and 17th period.  The affidavit states that there was  a $74,000+ transfer from George’s account to his wife’s, Shellie, account during a April 16th to April 19th period.

Prosecutors allege that Zimmerman asked his wife to “pay off all the bills”, which include an American Express bill and Sam’s Club bill.

After his release on bond, Shellie transferred $85,000+ back into Zimmerman’s account on April 24th.

The couple claims that they did not release the information to the courts of their finances because they feared what would happen.  His attorneys add, “We feel the failure to disclose these funds was caused by fear, mistrust and confusion. The gravity of this mistake has been distinctly illustrated, and Mr. Zimmerman understands that this mistake has undermined his credibility, which he will have to work to repair.”

Five days after the hearing, Zimmerman speaks up about the funds.  But by then, it was obviously too late.  The judge had already felt he was lied to.

Here Criminal Defense Attorney, Michelle Suskauer, says that the perjury charge is unnecessary.  I DISAGREE!!

Our law system is based on the witnesses present in court and the fact that they vow to “tell the WHOLE truth, nothing BUT the TRUTH, so help them God.”

Now if we will overlook this, then the system set in place is flawed and, in fact, is not needed and should be discarded of. So which one is it?  Are we going to make criminals pay or not?  It cannot be both!

Any comments? “Amens”, “Ehh… I don’t know”s, or “ABSOLUTELY NOT!”s ?
