A new black romantic comedy is set to hit movie theaters this Mother’s Day. “Jumping the Broom” follows two drastically different black families, as they prepare for a wedding on Martha’s Vineyard. Directed by Salim Akil, the film stars Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Loretta Divine, Deeray Davis, Mike Epps, Laz Alonso, Tasha Smith, and Meagan Good. The movie chronicles a wealthy daughter (Paula Patton), who falls in love with a guy (Laz Alonso), from the wrong side of the tracks. It seems like an all black version of “Meet The Parents.” On a good note the film offers a different vibe from the melodramatic black films that have hit theaters lately. The trailer left me curious about the film and I hope I’m not disappointed. The film backed by T.D. Jakes and Tracey E. Edmonds, is set to be released on May 6, 2011.
