Pastor and activist, Andrew Jackson Young, turns the big 80! Celebrities like Chris Tucker, India Arie, and  Oprah Winfrey join in the festivities.  Young is known for being active in the 1960s Civil Rights Movement with good friend Martin Luther King, Jr.

Young stepped away from his seat to talk with Channel 2 News.  He stated, “It’s fabulous because of the talent.  It’s fabulous because of the friends.  It’s fabulous because the city and the country and the people from all over the world have turned around to say thank you.  But they don’t have anything to thank me for because everything I’ve done, I’ve really loved.”

Young has such a genuine spirit through all the turmoil in his life.  He is a divine soul who places his life in God and devotes his life for change.

Actors Jasmine Guy and Chris Tucker shows their appreciation for You.  “I feel indebted to him for what he’s done in the civil rights movement,” says Guy.  Tucker adds, “He’s done so much for everybody and I love him personally.”

Young concludes with a few words before Former President Bill Clinton and author Maya Angelou contributes to Young via video. Young says that the message of the night was simple, “Just having a good time and hoping that the messages that come from the people being honored and the people who sing get out to all the people.”

Andrew Young has done so much for the people and he deserves to be celebrated!  Happy Birthday Pastor Young.  Well deserved!
